Who Needs Help Memorizing Scripture?

Resource Monday

Anyone who knows me, knows I am passionate about children memorizing Scripture. I started with my children at a very young age. Many people could not believe I was not teaching my children the ABC’s and other school related things since I was a teacher, but we were working on Scripture. My thought on that was ~ they will one day learn their ABC’s because it is a requirement to read, BUT there is not a requirement to memorizing God’s Word. My goal is to “fill” them with the Word of God. God’s Word will NEVER return void. It holds ETERNAL value.

“So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11

My oldest memorizes things super fast, but I often wonder if that is due to memorizing at such a young age. She could barely talk and I had her quoting Scripture. My son doesn’t say the verses like she did at that age. I know it is IN Him because I will hear him say things about the Scripture. I am not sure if he will not memorize as quickly as her or more to do with some speech delays he has experienced. Either way ~ my children have “memorized” tons of Scripture.

Don’t worry ~ I am not super mom~ I  wanted to get that straight right now! I have many resources that aid in what I do with my children. Both of my children LOVE music so they tend to sing the verses more than actually saying it.

I love Seeds Family Worship. They have 7 CDs available that has 12 songs each. Then, to add to this you can go to Bible Study Printables and print copy work, color sheets and a mini poster with the verse on it. I have used these with the children at church as well. We work on memorizing the Scripture by singing the song, coming up with our own motions, color sheets and using the copy work pages. I have found this to very helpful. {Oh, and you can find some of the songs on YouTube if your child is a visual learner.} When you order the CD version of Seeds Family Worship, you get 2 CDs ~ that is so that you can KEEP one and GIVE the other one to a friend. How awesome is that?!?

We are apart of Classical Conversations and we have memory work each week. Our tutors are trained to repeat each piece of memory work 7 times before they move on to the next things. So being repetitive does work.

I assure you, if you post the verse in your home, talk about and listen to the CDs your children may not be able to say the verse exactly, but they will be full of God’s Word. It’s not about “perfect” memorization, it’s about being full of God’s Word!

We are going to be starting another 12 weeks with the kids at church soon. This time we will S.O.A.P. each verse. That would be a nice addition to the memory verse. When I use this at church we focus on one verse a week. Obviously, in your home you can go as fast or slow as you want OR make it completely simple and just LISTEN and SING the CD. This doesn’t have to be complicated!

Since this is one of my favorite resources, I will be giving away one copy of Seeds Family Worship to one of my readers. YAH! I love giveaways and blessing others with things that “grow families God’s way!”

I just noticed that the Rafflecopter is not showing up in the post, so hit the link and it will take you to it. I am working to fix it, but I have a new computer and it is much different from my last one. I have had a hard time figuring out why certain things are not working. Please bear with me through all the new things I am learning ~ blogging with a focus and new equipment.

I could definitely use some help in this area! I’d love to win one of those cds. :-) If I were to be so lucky to win the giveaway, I think maybe the Seeds of Character? Or Seeds of Praise? Or maybe just let you decide! lol

We love those CDs too! We have a couple of them already – they help me memorize scripture too! My girls also like the ABC Bible verse book – it’s a good way for younger kids to learn scripture and their letters at the same time. :)

I know! They have been a big HELP to me! I think I am a “resource junkie” because I LOVE books and any resource that helps! We have the ABC Bible Verse book too and it is great!! :)

  3. Cassie says:

LOVE this idea!! I will definitely be buying this set & will also be using printables. Thanks for this info. I need all the help I can get in this department (not just for training my children but for myself also)!

I would love to try these! We do a devotion with the kids each night and try to learn a verse each week, but I’m not very good at making it fun and exciting for them. I could definitely use the help:) I think I would like to try seeds of character first!

    • Amanda says:

That’s awesome, Cayce. It is hard to be creative sometimes. The CDs are great because even during the busiest of weeks, you can turn them on as your at home or in the car and your kids are getting the Word in them! I love it! The songs are fun and catchy, too!

I currently have Steve Green’s “Hide ’em in Your Heart” CDs that have been incredibly effective in helping my toddler learn verses. I would love to get the “Seeds of Character” CD!

    • Amanda says:

That’s awesome, Nicole. I have seen Steve Green’s CDs, but never bought them. I have heard great things about them! Isn’t it awesome when your toddler is going around singing God’s Word?!? It seems like the “character” CD is a favorite. :)
